Theme:
Near the Iraqi-Turkish border on the eve of an American invasion, refugee children like 13-year-old Kak gauge and await their fate.

Plot:

The film is set in the Kurdish refugee camp on the Iraqi-Turkish border on the eve of the US invasion of Iraq. Thirteen-year-old Satellite (Soran Ebrahim) is known for his installation of dishes and antennae for local villages who are looking for news of Saddam Hussein and for his limited knowledge of English. He is the dynamic, but manipulative leader of the children, organizing the dangerous but necessary sweeping and clearing of the minefields.

The industrious Satellite arranges trade-ins for un-detonated mines. He falls for an orphan named Agrin, a sad-faced girl traveling with her disabled, but smart brother Hengov, who appears to have the gift of clairvoyance, making people think he can predict the future. The siblings care for a blind toddler named Riga, who Agrin gave birth to after she was gang raped by Iraqi Arab soldiers. In Agrin and Hengov's village, the girls had been killed after being raped, while the boys and their families had been killed as well. Hengov's arms had been shot and soldiers attempted to drown both children. Because of these circumstances, Agrin is unable to reciprocate Satellite's feelings for her.

Agrin tries to kill the child on multiple occasions, then she ties him to a rock and throws him to the bottom of the lake. When her brother sees in his dream that Riga is drowning, he hurries out of the tent crying and tries to save him. Meanwhile, Agrin commits suicide.

Main topic:
The main topic of this film are the antipersonnel mines and how a simple group of children are given the hard and unfair task of picking them up in order to get some money for their families.

Anti-personnel mines are a form of land mine designed for use against humans, as opposed to anti-tank mines, which are designed for use against vehicles. Anti-personnel mines may be classified into blast mines or fragmentation mines, the latter may or may not be bounding mines.

The mines are often designed to injure, not kill, victims in order to increase the logistical (mostly medical) support required by enemy forces that encounter them. Some types of anti-personnel mines can also damage the tracks on armoured vehicles or the tires of wheeled vehicles.

Map

The map is a clear critic of America nowadays. It is full of stereotypes and it shows the vision that most of the people have about America and what's in it.
As we can see, most of the main states in the USA are represented by some characteristic of them, and most of these things are either laws that are valid in those states or important companies and enterprises while in South America most of the things are related to raw material, enterprises and labels.
This shows us that while North America is the headquarter of important companies, South America is where they have their factories. And it shows us too that we have a thought that North America is the most developed country of all world but that is not true because they have medieval laws such as the death penalty or the lack of control over weapons and guns.
I think this map wants to show us that we have a vision of America being the perfect land, the dream country, when it's wrong, it might be the economy leader in the world, but in humanitarian issues, they are so below the European countries or even some Asiatic ones.

Globalization.

Definition by Wikipedia.org:
Globalization (or globalisation) is the process of international integration arising from the interchange of world views, products, ideas, and other aspects of culture.

                                                                                    History:
The many meanings of the word "globalization" have accumulated very rapidly, and recently, and the verb, "globalize" is first attested by the Merriam Webster Dictionary in 1944. In considering the history of globalization, some authors focus on events since 1492, but most scholars and theorists concentrate on the much more recent past.
But long before 1492, people began to link together disparate locations on the globe into extensive systems of communication, migration, and interconnections. This formation of systems of interaction between the global and the local has been a central driving force in world history

My own words:
Globalization is a worldwide phenomenon that consist in the exchange of traditions, culture, ideas...written like this, it doesn't sound very bad, but it is in some aspects. The whole idea of exchangind cultures is a good one because we can learn so much from other countries, but the thing is that globalization doesn't work like that, globalization is a capitalist movement and that puts things into a new level.
Because globalizaton is not learning in it's entirety, is also trade, money and politics, which means we exchange more than our cultures, traditions and ideas, we exchange money, and when money is involved, things usually go wrong.
We think that globalization is that a person in Pekin is able to watch a show made in the U.K, but no, that's globalization, but it is not all of it, because sometimes the givin and taking thing doesn't work in both sides of the planet, for example: in Africa, lots of children make everyday tons of Nike shoes that then are sold in our developed countries for thousands of euros/dolars/pounds...but they get nothing, so where does all that money go? To the enterprises. See? That's the other side of globalization. And how are the enterprises related to politics? Very easy, as I said before, we live in a capitalist world, politicians have agreements with the enterprises so the politicians can have their support during their term and then after, they can have a job there and, in exchange, they give the enterprises their support and money to do what they want. And that works like that in the whole world.
So basicly, we're ruled by big coorporations who want the world to think the same and act the same in order to manipulate us easily, because when there are no differences between the thoughts of one part of the world and the thoughts of the other, it's easier to make them think they need what you have to offer them.
